Red Bull Riders Cup: Seaside Reef

5/30/2008

Carlsbad High School and San Dieguito Academy took the field (water) in the finals of the National Surf League's (NSL) San Diego Regional Red Bull Riders Cup on Thursday at Seaside Reef in Cardiff by the Sea, California. Although the surf was small and inconsistent both teams came ready to take the San Diego regional victory.

Defending champions, San Dieguito Academy took the water first posting a 21 point first round. Carlsbad's determination to beat the defending champs was immediately apparent as they gave it their all from the beginning and tied up the first round with a team total of 21 points.

In round two, San Dieguito came out ripping the small surf and posted higher scoring waves which gave them a team total of 25 points and a combined first and second round total score of 46 points. Carlsbad's determination and high level of surfing showed once again in the second half of the second round. As the final seconds ticked away, Carlsbad had posted a team score of 25 points for the round and a combined score of 46 points causing the Game to go into the third round at a tie.

In the final round both teams were hungry for the win. The skill levels of both teams were apparent as the third round total scores were once again equal. The Game went into overtime and Carlsbad's determination to take out the defending champions shined through as their team score inched passed San Dieguito's in the second half of the round with a minute and a half remaining.
